The Principle of Separation
Every human being has experienced some form of conflict, offense, or mistreatment. Along with those situations come all sorts of feelings ranging from fear to anger, to rejection, and more. It may be easy to try to blame someone or something else for our emotional struggles, but then we’d only be looking at the surface issue. The Bible tells us that our battle is not against people but against a spiritual kingdom that is opposed to God and His ways. That is why it is essential to learn how to use the spiritual gift of discernment.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 says this:
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 KJV
The gift of discernment is essential to your overcomers’ journey
We need to understand that an invisible kingdom is working in us and through others with a mission to separate us from our relationship with God, ourselves, and others. In the For My Life® Retreat, we present a class called, Separation. This teaching helps you understand where your battleground really is and how to use the gift of discernment so that you can be victorious in battle against your true enemy – Satan and his kingdom.
The following is a short video clip from the For My Life Online, Separation, teaching by Pastor Scott Harper:
Here are a few key points that the Separation teaching addresses:
- Who is our battle really against?
- Where does personal responsibility come in?
- How can I learn how to discern the enemy’s influence in myself and others?
- How can separating a person from their sin help restore relationships?
- How can separation help set me free?
- How can discerning of spirits help me be an overcomer?
Maybe it’s time to learn how to effectively use the spiritual gift of discernment of spirits.
Dr. Henry W. Wright often said, “The battle is won or lost between your ears.” Without discernment and understanding of the spiritual battleground around us, we may be fighting all wrong. We may come in with good intentions, but when we see a person in front of us say or do something that’s not from Heaven, we may get thrown off our game. Because we do not discern what is motivating and driving them.
Discernment is a gift from God
When we can recognize, understand, and discern what we are dealing with spiritually, we can learn how to love the person and hate the sin. That may sound hard, and perhaps according to our limited human understanding, it might be very difficult. However, when we press into God, seeking Him for His grace and mercy to correctly approach and deal with adverse situations in the right spirit, He can lead us according to His perfect law. That law is to love Him with all our heart and love our neighbor as ourselves. He can open our eyes to the real battleground, give us discernment, and strengthen us to face those challenges from a completely different angle.
The gift of discernment is essential for effective spiritual warfare
With the understanding of separation, we no longer have to feel like helpless victims in a cruel world. We are beloved sons and daughters of God, and we can know that battle belongs to the Lord. He will get the victory. He is mighty in battle. When a situation arises that we might feel victimized in, we can take this to the Lord and ask Him to lead our hearts to the victory. With His perspective, we can discern clearly where the enemy is trying to attack and counter Him with the truth from God’s Word. And with God’s help, we will be far more effective in spiritual warfare.
Are you ready for a shift? Are you ready to take back the territory that the enemy has stolen; to repair relationships, strip off the power of guilt and shame, and walk as a victorious overcomer? Are you ready to learn how to utilize the powerful spiritual weapon of discernment?
