Pathways of Thought – The Body, Soul, Spirit Connection

A For My Life Sound Bite

Through the Spirit World Realities, Separation, Seven Steps to Sin, and 8 Rs to Freedom teachings, we help you discern and understand what the enemy’s kingdom is and the Scriptural tools you need to overcome it. Yet, there is still an important question that needs to be addressed: How can the enemy’s invisible kingdom influence your thoughts, feelings, and emotions and tempt you from within? To answer this question we need to understand the body, soul, spirit connection.

Today we present a sound bite from the “Pathways of Thought” teaching in the For My Life® Online Course. This teaching will prepare you to protect yourself from the enemy’s wrong ways of thinking, both now and in the future. It will also equip you to begin to replace those old pathways of thought with renewed ones according to God’s Word.

Here are a few key points that this teaching addresses:

How can the enemy influence your thoughts and your physiology from the spirit level?

What is the difference between your spirit and soul?

How can your mind be trained to think, speak, and act a certain way?

Can you retrain your mind to think more like how God thinks?

How can your thoughts affect your physical body?

Discover the answers to these questions and more in the Pathways of Thought teaching!

This teaching helps you understand how God designed your brain to operate in the physical and spiritual dimensions through different types of brainwaves. This is the merging point between medically accurate information and Scripturally sound theology.

You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body. Your body is just your mobile home, and one day your body will parish, and your spirit will leave your earthly body and be resurrected into your glorified, eternal body. Your body is not who you are; it’s only temporal. Your spirit is the eternal part of who you are.

How do our brainwaves connect our physical body to the spirit world?

There are five types of brainwaves: alpha, theta, beta, delta, and gamma. These brainwaves all operate in your physiological brain to help you to process, store, and analyze information and input from both the physical and spiritual dimensions. Brainwaves are necessary for your comprehension of thought. For this teaching, we focus on the first three – alpha, beta, and delta.

Your mind, or your soul as it is often referred to in the Word, is the bridge between the spirit world and the physical world. It involves your intellect, feelings/emotions, recording of life experiences, your will, and decision making.

The roles of alpha, theta, and beta brainwaves

Your five physical senses are perceived and recorded in your cerebral cortex through beta brainwave activity. Beta is involved in your short-term memory.

Theta brainwave activity involves the input we get at the spirit level. That input can either come from the enemy’s kingdom in the form of temptation and ungodly or self-serving thought, or it can come from God’s Kingdom as a work of the Holy Spirit to lead us, direct us, and correct us by His love. Spiritual input is not audible; it comes as impressions, thoughts, and pictures.

Then your alpha brainwaves give you the ability to have cognitive, deductive reasoning. They integrate everything you perceive externally through beta brainwaves and internally through theta brainwaves to help you reason and come to a conclusion.

The battle for your mind, will, and emotions

These three brainwaves work together to form you as a person. The thoughts that you think on, agree with, and meditate on regularly become a part of your biology through a process called protein synthesis. Both the Kingdom of God and Satan’s kingdom want to win this territory of long-term memory pathways so that they can influence your personality.

The enemy’s kingdom will use recurring thoughts of recall and replay to get us to fixate on negative thought patterns and create a permanent pathway of thought to hold us in a place of bondage to sin. These thoughts are often tormenting or create physiological responses of stress in our bodies.

What does it mean to serve sin?

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. … 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:34 and 36 KJV

Christians can serve sin. That doesn’t make them ‘possessed’ because they still can choose to continue participating with it or to turn from it and repent when God brings it to light by His grace and mercy. Serving sin means that you are under the influence of sin; you’ve been deceived into following it as if it is truth.

What is iniquity?

We can also be programmed by iniquity – ways of thinking, speaking, and acting that have traveled down the line of our generations that do not follow God’s ways. These ways are so familiar to us that we don’t recognize them as a problem. We become disarmed because those things feel normal and comfortable, and we don’t think to hold them captive and turn from them and repent.

Jesus came to show us God’s nature and restore us to His love and way of thinking. He left us His Holy Spirit to continue working with us and to lead us towards the pathways of life.

God wants to help you be an overcomer!

God is greater than the enemy’s tactics. He provides truth in His Word that sheds light on those old, unhealthy thought pathways and redirects us to His more excellent way. God’s ways bring a positive fruit of righteousness, peace, and joy. His Word is a significant tool that He uses to cut through the enemy’s lies and renew our minds. And as we reflect on and meditate on God’s Word and His ways, He can help us create new pathways of thought.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2 KJV

How can disease be spiritually rooted?

80% of incurable disease has its origin at the spirit level. Wrong patterns of thought that are contrary to God’s ways trigger the body to respond contrary to the way it was created to function. This can cause breakdown and disease as well as mental and emotional torment.

God wants to heal you from the inside out. He wants to help you reclaim your spirit, soul, and body and restore you to wholeness in Him. Are you ready to join Him on your overcomers’ journey?
