Healing From Trauma and Disease- Julie’s Testimony

Just in time, Julie received healing from trauma and disease when God helped her find and apply these Scriptural principles to her life

At Be in Health®, we know that oftentimes one of the first steps to physical healing is healing from trauma. God doesn’t just want to slap a Band-Aid on your problems, He wants to deliver you and lead you in a more excellent way.

After years of battling with brokenness and trauma from her past and health issues, Julie found herself in a desperate place. She had looked everywhere for help but could find no real solutions. Then, just in time, God gave her exactly what she needed to help her to receive healing from the trauma of her past and to walk forward in wholeness in her spirit, soul, and body.

Julie’s testimony

My health began to decline with my first pregnancy. I endured an abusive marriage, and after my eldest son was born, I developed chronic bronchitis and the onset of multiple chemical sensitivities/ Environmental illness. These health problems escalated as I struggled to get out of the marriage.

I eventually remarried and, tragically, after many struggles and declining health during my second pregnancy, I delivered a stillborn baby girl diagnosed with trisomy 18. My last pregnancy was a miracle as I was told there was little hope of getting pregnant again. However, I continued to struggle with my health. Postpartum depression hit me over and over again after each pregnancy.

Through my pregnancy struggles and traumas, I developed hyperthyroidism, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, hormonal imbalance, and menorrhagia (severe bleeding that prevented me from leaving the house for extended periods of time). On top of all of that, I was overcome by fear and anxiety. I developed a host of anxiety-related disorders, including panic attacks, adrenal fatigue, PTSD, and hypertension. These all stayed with me and caused challenges for many years.

I was a performance-driven stay-at-home mom and home educator. I also ran side businesses and was active in church and homeschooling groups. My boys’ youth groups and friends would hang out at our house all the time, and we’d regularly entertain both small and large groups in our home. We really enjoyed it!

Confronted with my past

My health problems slowed me down, but I’d always bounce back. However, after moving our family from the city in Colorado back to my home county in Texas, my health really began to deteriorate. We moved to an isolated old homestead. I literally almost worked myself to death as we renovated the existing house, basically camping for two years before it was livable. At the same time, we started a very large garden, raised chickens and other animals, and tried to learn the “self” sustaining lifestyle. I continued to homeschool my youngest son and tried to interact with old acquaintances and family members with whom I had not had a close relationship. After 33 years of being away, it was like being thrown back into my past, and it was very hard on me and my health.

A downward spiral of my health

I eventually became bedridden and homebound for about three years. It got to a point where I had no energy, could barely talk, couldn’t sleep, and couldn’t do anything around the house. I felt like I was of no use to anyone and became very depressed. The heart palpitations, panic attacks, anxiety, and PTSD increased, and I ended up in the ER a few times.

I gave up driving for fear that I would pass out or go into a panic state. I was on meds for anxiety, my thyroid, and blood pressure, and I was undergoing hormonal replacement therapy. My husband frequently took time off work to drive me miles to see specialists and to try every healing modality available. We spent thousands of dollars on therapies and supplements to no avail. Our finances were suffering due to all the medical bills. Some of the modalities even exacerbated my issues. The chemical sensitivities and environmental illness continued to get worse. My diet was also extremely limited as I was trying to manage reflux and allergy symptoms.

We looked everywhere for help

People prayed for me, I read the Bible, searched the internet continually for answers, listened to preachers on TV, read many books, and continually cried out to God for help. At times I did not want to go on and didn’t know if I could make it through another night.

I felt like I was letting my husband and my sons down as they had to do everything for me. If I could get a shower or walk out on the porch and sit, it was a good day. My boys rarely had anyone over anymore for fear of me reacting to the fragrances that they might bring in. I felt like I was missing out on life.

The turning point

During this time, my oldest son met a young lady, got engaged, and began planning their wedding. I was discouraged because I had no energy to help with the plans as I had experience as an event planner. As the date approached, my heart was breaking because I saw no way for me to be able to attend.

Then one day, while on an adrenal fatigue support group on Facebook, someone recommended some books that could be helpful. I wrote down the three book titles and ordered the first two. They were of no help to me, so I ordered the third one. It was, A More Excellent Way, by Dr. Henry W. Wright.

The wedding was now three weeks away. I devoured the book in a weekend and began practicing the Walk Out® principles in the back of the book. Things began to change. I then scheduled a Spiritual Lifeline® appointment, which is the phone ministry available through Be in Health, for the day before the wedding.

Healing came just in time!

My husband suggested that I order a dress and plan on going, and if I couldn’t stay, he’d take me home. The week before the wedding, we had an influx of my son’s friends coming from Colorado and a lot of activity in the house. I was maintaining but still struggling. The day before the wedding, I had my Spiritual Lifeline call and received prayer and ministry.

The next evening, I went to the wedding, socialized with everyone there and even danced! I stayed for the whole evening. God is so good!

We were excited about what God was doing and hungry for more

Amazed at what God had done, my husband and youngest son got me to Georgia for Be in Health’s For My Life® Retreat a couple of months later. The trip there was quite a struggle. My husband almost turned around in the driveway as we were leaving because of my issues. The night before the first day of the retreat, the enemy did a major attack trying to prevent me from attending, but we prevailed.

I was a changed person after that week. And I am still changing!

Learning and understanding that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me, accepts me, and is not angry with me was a huge revelation. I did not previously realize that while God has a plan for my life, our spiritual enemy also has a plan for my life. That plan is to steal, kill, and destroy, and he was winning.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly. John 10:10 KJV

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]. Ephesians 6:12 KJV

I learned the steps to healing from trauma and disease

At Be in Health, I learned that we were created with a spirit, soul, and body. First our spirit needs to be sanctified, renewed, and restored, then our soul (mind, will, and emotions) follows, and finally, physical healing comes to our bodies.

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and [I pray God] your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1Thessalonians 5:23 KJV

I finally understood that, even while we are in our mother’s womb, the enemy is plotting against us. I grew up in an angry, rage-filled, emotionally abusive, and sometimes physically abusive household. I lived in fear of my earthly father and had no safe place for my emotions. I did not feel loved or accepted.

Our family hid and did not talk about what went on at home. We had fabricated personalities when we went out into the community. I also endured many traumas, including molestation, rape, and a bad car accident, but I hid those for fear of worse consequences at home. Then, after leaving home, I spent my life looking for love in all the wrong places.

Spiritual recovery and healing from trauma

Through Be in Health, I understood the spirit world realities and that the enemy had come in and resided with me through the door-points of these traumatic life events. I recognized that I had been living with a broken heart and that spirits of Rejection, Unloving, Fear, Shame, Guilt, Bitterness, and Self-Pity had been influencing my thoughts, will, and emotions all my life. I also had been holding onto drivenness, perfectionism, and performance in an effort to earn love. I repented to Father God for listening to and being in agreement with their lies, and I received deliverance to remove them from my life. This was a tremendous step for my healing from trauma.

Why I was getting sick

Be in Health taught me that every thought I listen to and agree with releases a chemical response in my body. The barrage of negative thoughts that I was listening to toward myself was wreaking havoc on my immune system and the natural balance or homeostasis of my body, thereby causing the disease.

Now I’ve learned how to line myself up with God’s plan for my life and to listen to what He says about me instead. I take all the other thoughts captive as it says in 2 Corinthians 10:5:

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV

The next steps to healing from trauma

God says that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, marvelous are His works, and that my soul knows right well (Psalm 139:14). I know now that I can trust Him with my future. I’ve also been able to forgive those who hurt me in my past because now I know that the enemy of their soul was influencing them too. Jesus set the example for me when He said, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do!” (Luke 23:34)

The Word says that God’s people have gone into captivity for lack of knowledge (Isaiah 5:113 KJV). I had been taken captive by the devil at his will. I am forever grateful for the knowledge of the Word that is brought forth at Be in Health that helped me break free from the enemy’s plans for my life and walk back into God’s plan for my life. I was born again at the age of 28 and have been in church ever since. However, after learning the Biblical principles at Be in Health, I felt as if I was born again all over again at the age of 56.

Continuing my walk out journey

My walkout has been a journey of applying God’s Word and His love to my life through the power of the Holy Spirit. I’ve been working on coming into relationship with the Godhead (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and am learning to love myself and to love and forgive others. I have been continuing my education through all of the Be in Health Resources, and conferences, and we’ve been back to Georgia for the Walk Out® Workshop and the Marriage Retreat as well.

God didn’t just heal my heart, he healed my body too!

Now I am no longer on the meds, my hormones are balanced, and my body is in homeostasis. I’ve been healed of almost all of my diseases and am in the process of recovering from a few residual ones. My blood work all comes back normal, and my blood pressure has lowered. I have enough energy for my day now. I’m done with the bleeding. I no longer panic or have anxiety for God is my peace and my Rock, my Deliverer, and my Everlasting Help in the time of trouble. I can go out and about wherever I want to go. I am building new relationships and healing old ones. I can eat when and whatever I want, and I am sleeping soundly through the night.

A new peace in my heart

Peace rules in my heart. God has brought me out of isolation and led us to a second home in the city where He gave my husband a new job that he enjoys! Through what we’ve learned at Be in Health, our marriage is also being restored to what God intended it to be.

I’m still a work in progress, pardon my dust, as Pastor Henry would say, but I am God’s beloved!

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 1 John 1:2 KJV
