Julie Discovered Her Identity

(A 4 Minute Read)

Where we find our value.

It can be easy to get our value and identity mixed up with our performance or appearance. Many of us are trained from a young age to believe that our level of success and achievement will determine whether or not we are acceptable. We may think that we need to perform or look a certain way in order to receive love. What we don’t realize is that this is a misrepresentation of our identity and of God’s love towards us. This can lead to an open door to fear, stress, anxiety, and many other things. But when we rediscover our identity in Christ, in who He created us to be from the foundation of the World, and find the rest that He’s prepared for us, we will find the perfect peace that only He can offer us.

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Hebrews 4:9-10 KJV

Burn out.

This was the case for Julie. She’s a singer and found herself swept up in a pattern of drivenness and performance in order to gain the approval of man. When she got married, she strove to be the best possible wife that she could be also. Then when she had children, she endeavored to be the best possible mother. With each additional task, she gave herself no allowance for failure. She found herself getting burned out and frustrated.

Julie’s revelations.

When she attended the For My Life® Retreat in Thomaston, Georgia, she learned what it truly means to rest in the Lord. She realized that she was allowed to rest and that it was a good thing. God was not going to get mad at her if she took some time out and relaxed from time to time. This revelation was monumental for her.

Another huge revelation for her was that she is a gift and how truly loved she is by Father God first and also by her family. She is loved by her children just because she is their mom. She’s loved by her husband because she is herself, not because of her performance, success or appearance.

She realized that whether or not the world ever loves her and the gifts that God has given to her, it doesn’t make her any less special to God.

Is For My Life® right for you?

She says this about attending the For My Life® Retreat, “Wherever you are in your life’s walk, there is truth about your life that you are going to learn here.” She says that her experience at Be in Health® was so worth it.

Is it wrong to want to do our best?

It is not bad or wrong to do the best that we can if it is in the right spirit. But when fear, drivenness, and performance come with a need to be accepted and loved, a person will lose their peace and find themselves driven and exhausted. Yet when a person lines themselves up with the Holy Spirit and allows Him to be their strength and inspiration, He will renew their strength and give them all of the resources they need to accomplish the task that they’ve been called to.

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 KJV

The benefits of lining ourselves up with God’s ways:

With that level of submission comes God’s peace and joy. In fact, only in that place will a person discover exactly what God has created them for and the fullness of life that He has prepared for them. This is where they will discover their true identity in Him.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17 KJV
