Today is the start of the 2015 Married Couples Retreat! This week is such a special time for so many couples as they work with God and each other to strengthen their relationships. Many marriages have been changed, restored, and even transformed by this program. Read below how the Married Couples Retreat affected one man’s marriage.
The Married Couples Retreat was a life changing week. It built upon what we had learned in For My Life while adding teaching and examples specific to marriage. My wife and I have benefited greatly from the transparency and honesty modeled throughout the week. We learned from both the successes and the mistakes of the staff as they shared their life experiences and how God helped them to overcome.
The week did not provide simplistic formulas of how to handle problems in marriage. Instead, it highlighted the need to cultivate relationship and work with God and each other in order to strengthen us individually and as a unit.
Perhaps the greatest fruit that has come from that week has been our ability to work through areas where we don’t know a clear solution to resolve an issue. In the past, we would scramble for a solution to fix our situation. After going through the Married Couples Retreat, we have learned to talk to God and one another, and take risks and make mistakes in the journey of growing up as a couple.
While in the short term, a simple formula feels more comfortable; working through our issues by communicating, repenting, and learning through experience and application of the Word has been much more meaningful. Challenges of growing up together are not seen as insurmountable obstacles, but opportunities to change and improve our marriage.
Our marriage is nothing like we ever dreamed it would be – it is much, much more than we could have imagined.Click to tweet
