Self pity is a powerful enemy. It will lead you into addictions looking for comfort and make you think you can justify the addiction. I would like to encourage you to make sure self-pity doesn't take you to places of comfort you should not go.
Every person has self-pity to some degree; some more than others, some less than others. But please do not let self-pity take you someplace you ought not to go. I want to make sure you understand the only place you should have real comfort in is the Lord.
David encouraged himself in the Lord. David had a reason to go into self-pity. He had every reason to, but he did not listen to self-pity. He went to the Lord. Self-pity will take you everywhere but to the Lord. Self-pity will isolate you. He will cause you to seek comfort by nurturing yourself until you develop an addiction. He will cause you to say, "But God, I'm justified in this. I was victimized. I was rejected." So was David. But David went to God for his help and his comfort.
Self-pity is a destroyer and will use addictions to destroy you. Very often Self-pity is motivating an addiction. It will cause you to focus on yourself and makes a list of all the reasons you do not feel loved, driving you to fix yourself. If you are ready to be free of an addiction, be sure you get rid of Self-pity. It may be in your generations.
