As Christians, we have been set free from the penalty of sin because Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty for us. He made it possible for us to become a new creation, a new creature. As a new creature, we do not have to be entangled in sin again.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become
new.
As a new creature, we are to put away our old ways. Yet, we say one thing, but the pragmatic application is that there isn't much difference between us and the world. The world has the same biological diseases the church has and visa versa. We have the same psychiatric problems the world has. We are serving the same sin. Yes, we say they are damned and we are saved. But many are still bound at the same level of sin as they are.
This is a hard teaching. An unsaved person who has high blood pressure and a believer who has high blood pressure are both serving the same sin. This should not be! Both are "taking thought for tomorrow" and this is unrighteousness. This opens up the entire subject of 80% of all incurable disease and what's behind it.
