Have you ever done something one particular way for many years and then had the experience, as I have, of discovering that the way you were doing it was wrong? Have you ever tried to help with a task and found out that your well-intentioned efforts actually hindered the project’s completion? Yes, I have also done that, more often than I care to recall! Have you ever had the joy of re-learning something in a way that simplified it so much that you just couldn’t believe it? Well, let me tell you about a book I recently read and a seminar I recently took that were just like that. Both the book and the seminar are entitled A MORE EXCELLENT WAY.

You may recognize that phrase as the end of I Corinthians 12:31. And the book and seminar deliver just that. People are coming from all over America and even from around the world to discover that More Excellent Way. There were 190 people from all over America (New York to Florida, Minnesota to California) and even one person each from Canada, Mexico and Israel at the seminar I attended. The book may be ordered from the web site www.pleasantvalleychurch.net. You can even sign up for two seminars on this site: the first is called For My Life, and the second is called For Their Life, which, while not grammatical, is very descriptive!

I know there are literally all kinds of crazy things “out there.” Let me try to put your minds at ease a little. I am a Christian for starters, so you can erase fears about New Age, cults and crazy stuff. I have twelve years of higher education and three degrees, a BS Ed, MS Ed, and a DMD (doctor of medical dentistry.) I taught first and second year physics, chemistry, first and second year biology and general science for five years and I have been a dentist for twenty-six years. I have attended many, many, many religious seminars and many, many, many dental seminars in my day. I can be fooled, but not easily! (For instance, I was taught and believed the theory of evolution until I started working on my MS Ed with a National Science Foundation grant through the biology department at the University of Georgia in 1971. In one biology course I realized that everything I had learned in physics, chemistry and mathematics totally negated what they were trying to tell me in biology about supposed evolutionary theory. I realized that evolution never had and never could have happened. I pondered the alternatives and realized that the only alternative that made any sense was that the Bible was true from Genesis to Revelation, no exceptions. So believe me, I have a rational faith in a rational God, and I don’t like funny stuff.)

The For My Life seminar gave insights into the spiritual roots of many diseases. It also gave me insights into practical Christianity. There are many things that marked the lives of the early Christians that make us think of them as very, very extraordinary. They gave up all things for the gospel. They followed Jesus faithfully unto death. They actually DID the things Jesus taught them to do! But today we are surrounded by what I call almost-Christians. They almost believe Jesus. They almost follow Him. They almost follow the beatitudes. They almost obey the scriptures. They almost forgive their enemies. They almost, almost, almost. And you know what? I have followed their examples a lot, to my dismay. This seminar doesn’t hammer everybody else, but it sure did open my eyes to what I see in the mirror. And it showed the logical connection between many spiritual roots and different diseases. Doesn’t it make sense that if my life truly moves into ALIGNMENT with God’s Word, I should see the promises of scripture opened up to me? Now I am not talking about faking alignment with the Word so I can test God or deceive Him (ever try that?) into “blessing” me. I mean aligning with God’s Word until it KILLS ME to the flesh, until the carnal man is dealt a death blow. I don’t mean playing church any more. I mean a total conversion of my mind, will and emotions, body, soul and spirit. I believe that is what characterized the early Christians. And this seminar was a very refreshing breath of fresh air, fresh spirit, in that regard. Please GET the book and ATTEND the seminars. You owe it to the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth!
